Misenheimer Solar Farm

Insufficient topsoil led to subpar conditions for vegetation establishment on this 475 acre utility scale solar farm. Soil test results showed the pH range throughout the majority of the site was between 4.8 to 5.5 and the organic matter between 2.10 and 3.37 in clay soils. Ideal soil conditions for vegetation establishment will have a pH of 6.5 and organic matter percentage of 5.0 for clay soils.

The solution for this project was to add organics and adjust the pH to optimize the vegetation establishment results. Eco Express utilized CarbonizPN to add organics into the soil and help adjust the pH as well. pHast Cal was also utilized for a quick pH boost to the soils. In addition to adjusting the soil’s pH and organic matter these products will aid in reducing soil compaction, increasing soil life, increasing water holding capacity, and improving the fertilizer’s effectiveness.

The results of this process allowed the client to seed the project one time with no erosion or vegetation issues afterwards. Providing an effective process to vegetate a project helps reduce costs associated with regrading, reseeding, and most importantly time.
